How to apply
Every year UWC Belgium organises a selection procedure to nominate Belgian students for the United World Colleges. The selection process lasts roughly 4 months.
Candidates 2010-2012: Info Days will be held on 24 October and 28 November 2009. Find out more here or via the website of the Fondation Roi Baudouin: http://www.kbs-frb.be
Ideally, you should be between 16 and 17 when you leave for a United World College, i.e. you should have successfully completed your 4th (or 5th) year of secondary school in Belgium. You will therefore apply during your 4th or 5th year.
Your academic level should be good enough to allow sufficient time off studying so as to take part in the various extra-curricular activities which are at the core of the UWC experience.
Other required qualities are sufficient maturity, a sense of responsibility, tolerance and open-mindedness towards different cultures. Finally, to get the best from the two year stay at a United World College, one should also be enthusiastic, highly motivated and persevere in the face of difficulties.
Students are selected on personal merit and their commitment to the UWC ideals, regardless of race, religious beliefs, political views or their social or economic circumstances. In Belgium, this means also regardless of their place of residence or their mother tongue. Students should have good academic results in the Belgian system but, above all, should be strongly motivated and subscribe to UWC's vision and principles. Prior knowledge of English is an asset but not compulsory.
Two information days are organised each year in the fall in Brussels. We encourage you to attend these meetings as they will allow you to get a better idea about UWC through a presentation and a video. You will also have the opportunity to meet ex-students.
