United World Colleges is a global non-profit, equal opportunities organisation that provides intercultural learning programmes for young people around the world. It is the pioneer and best practice leader in the field of global education.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees for an UWC education depend on the kind of programme and the location of the school. UWC Belgium provides equal opportunities to candidates regardless of their background or financial means. It therefore provides variable scholarships to those students who have passed the selection process. Parents of selected students are required to contribute to UWC Belgium’s scholarship scheme according to their means.

Fees and Scholarships for UWC Colleges

The fees covering two years tuition, lodging and activities at a United World College vary per location according to the local cost of living. The average college fee is € 40,000 for the full two years.

Socio-economic diversity lies at the core of the UWC movement. UWC Belgium has therefore adopted an extensive scholarship programme, which allows students from all backgrounds to attend one of the UWC Colleges. The value of individual scholarships varies per student in accordance with a fair assessment of parental income. As such, scholarships can vary from 50 to 75% and in some cases even 100% of the tuition fees.

Parental contribution

Successful candidates, or their parents, are required to contribute to UWC Belgium’s scholarship fund, thus providing opportunities to other deserving students in the future. However, the process to establish this ‘parental contribution’ happens only after candidates have successfully passed the interview procedure and thus been selected by the independent selection jury. After selection, the Treasurer requests financial information from the student’s parents individually. Based on this, he outlines the details of scholarship offered and the required Parental Contribution, according to their specific circumstances. As a general guideline, we ask parents to at least contribute at least the same amount as their son or daughter would usually cost them had they stayed at home. Sponsors and other financial contributors have no say whatsoever in the selection of students.

Fees for UWC Short Courses

These courses cover a period of two weeks in a campus environment. UWC Belgium currently provides bursaries for Belgian participants to attend the annual UWC Short Course, organised by our sister organisation in the Netherlands – the Youth Leadership Summit.
